Rafy na Malediwach są jedne z piękniejszych więc warto je zobaczyć chociaż raz. Na dzień dzisiejszy to nasze ulubione miejsce jeśli chodzi o jakość tego co można zobaczyć pod wodą, ale też o całą organizację samego nurkowania.
Reefs in Maldives are one of the most beautiful things on earth and it is really worth seeing them at least once. It has been our favourite diving spot so far, in terms of the stuff you see under water, but also in a way the diving itself is organised.
Centrum nurkowe Werner Lau było bardzo dobrze zorganizowane, ze sprzętem do wypożyczania, w bardzo dobrym stanie, 5-6 łodzi, które wypływały codziennie na różne rafy. Towarzystwo również sympatyczne, zarówno wśrod obsługi centrum, instruktorzy, jak i wśród współtowarzyszy nurkujących z nami. Z tego co pamiętam to Werner Lau byli tam już ostatni rok. Musieli się stamtąd wynosić (z początkiem nowego roku kalendarzowego) bo zmienił się właściciel wyspy, i generalnie powiedział im ‘do widzenia.’ Podobno miał jakichś innych ludzi nagranych do prowadzenia całego centrum nurkowego na wyspie. Obsługa centrum, instruktorzy i divemasterzy generalnie mówli że będą przerzuceni na inne wyspy jako że Werner Lau miał (i chyba nadal ma) swoje centra nurkowe jeszcze na dwóch czy trzech innych wyspach na Malediwach.
Werner Lau diving centre was properly set up with rental equipment in very good condition, about 5 or 6 boats that went diving every day to different reefs. The company was also very good including diving instructors and dive masters as well as all co-divers. As far as I remember it was their last year on the island. The new owner who shortly before our arrival took over the island, told them to ‘pack their bags.’ So they had to move out as of the beginning of the following year. Apparently the new owner already had a different dive staff set up. The whole Werner Lau staff were saying they would all be moved to different Maldivian island resorts where Werner Lau was also operating (and probably still is).
Vilamendhoo ma swoją rafę dookoła wyspy (house reef) więc nurkować można na tejże rafie plus do wyboru również można wypływać łodzią z divemasterami na inne rafy, bliższe lub dalsze.
Pierwsze nurkowanie w nowym miejscu to przeważnie jest ‘odświeżanie’ umiejętności nurkowych, jeśli się nie nurkowało 6 miesięcy lub dłużej. Jeden z divemasterów zabrał nas na house reef (rafa dookoła wyspy) żeby mniej więcej się przekonać czy wiemy co robimy. Po odświeżającym nurze, kolejne nury zaliczaliśmy albo sami w dwójkę na house reef, albo zapisywalismy się na łódź i wypływaliśmy na 1 lub 2 nurkowania łodzią na pobliskie rafy, 10-20 min od naszej wyspy.
Vilamendhoo has got its own house reef so you can dive there, or you can also do boat diving to see other reefs.
First dive in a new place is usually done as a refreshment of your diving skills, if you haven’t dived for 6 months or longer. One of the dive masters went with us to the house reef to see more or less that we know what we’re doing. After the refresher dive, that, we were diving on our own, on the house reef or we signed up for a boat doing one or two dives on other reefs, about 10-20 min by boat from Vilamendhoo.
Na house reef można było schodzić w różnych punktach, które dokładnie były oznaczone i ponumerowane dookoła wyspy. Wzdłuż wyspy przeważnie biegł prąd, czasem w jedną, czasem w drugą stronę. Idąc nurkować na hosue reef, wchodziliśmy jednym zejściem, nurkowaliśmy z prądem wzdłuż rafy, i wychodziliśmy następnym zejściem.
Vilamendhoo house reef had a few entries/exits around the island and they were all marked and numebred. Along the island on both sides, flows a current, sometimes east to west, sometimes west to east. When we dived on the house reef, we usually went in one entry/exit, went with the current along the reef, and finished the dive in the next entry/exit.
Nurkowanie na house reef było świetne bo mogliśmy sobie w dwójkę schodzić kiedy mieliśmy ochotę, o każdej porze dnia. Oczywiście nie częściej niż 2 razy w ciągu dnia. Trzeba się tylko wpisywać na listę, godzinę o której się wyszło i pamiętać koniecznie o wypisaniu się po powrocie, i podaniu godziny o której się wróciło.
Zaliczyliśmy też po raz pierwszy nocne nurkowanie (zaraz po zmroku) na house reef. Było bardzo ciekawie bo wtedy kolory rafy są inne, w świetle latarki lub po zgaszeniu nawet, i można zobaczyć różne korale które otwierają się dopiero w nocy, lub poobserwować jak większe ryby polują na mniejsze.
House reef diving was really brilliant because we could dive there just the two of us, whenever we wanted (obviously, no more than 2 dives a day). At the dive centre, we just had to write the time we were going in and the entry/exit, and after we finished we had to remember to sign out, give the entry/exit number and the time we came back.
We also did our first night dive (shortly after the sunset) on a house reef. It was really interesting because the reef looks different, the colours are different in a flashlight or even after you switch it off. You can see a lot of corals that are usually closed/hidden during the day, or even watch jackfish hunting for smaller fish.
Nurkowanie z łodzi też było ciekawe bo była to okazja do posocjalizowania się z instrukotrami i divemasterami oraz innymi nurkującymi. Dzień przed, w centrum nurkowym, wywieszano zawsze opcje na następny dzień - o której wypływa i wraca łódź, która łódź, na jaką rafę, jak daleko i szczegóły co to za rafa i co tam można spotkać, plus dodatkowe informacje np czy rafa jest łatwa do zaliczenia czy trudniejsza (głównie wpływ na to mają prądy morskie). Jeśli chcieliśmy popłynąć, to właśnie dzień wcześniej trzeba było się wpisać na listę. Nigdy nie wypływaliśmy na cały dzień bo nie kręciło nas spędzanie prawie całego dnia na łodzi. Pamiętam, że podczas naszego pobytu jedna łódź codziennie wypływała na cały dzień, na jedną i tą samą rafę dosyć daleko, ponieważ ‘polowali‘ na Rekina Wielorybiego który właśnie w tamtejszych terenach podobno przebywał o tej porze roku. Nie znam szczegółów i nie wiem czy chociaż raz go spotkali ;) My wypływalismy przeważnie na 1 nurkowanie, czasem do południa a czasem po południu. Za nurkowanie z łodzi płaci się dodatkowo parę dolarów.
Boat diving was also enjoyable because it was an opportunity to socialise with the dive masters and instructors as well as other co-divers. Usually a day before, the dive centre put up a schedule for the following day - which boat goes to which reef, at what time, how far, and more details as to the dive itself, whether it is suitable for beginners or not (strong currents), etc. If we wanted to go on a boat dive, we had to sign up the day before. We never took the whole day boat diving trip as we didn’t fancy sitting on a boat all day. I remember that during our stay there was one boat going out every morning to the same reef, as they were trying to watch the whale shark that usually appeared in that particular spot. I don’t really know the details so I don’t know whether they met one or not :) We usually went on a boat for 1 dive, sometimes in the morning, sometimes after lunch. Boat dives are usually surcharged.
Wszystkie zdjęcia robione ponownie Nikonem D70 w plastikowej torbie “eva-marine” germańskiej inżynierii. Oprócz zwykłego obiektywu używaliśmy też obiektywu makro - rezultatem są naprawdę niezłe ujęcia niektórych ryb czy korali z bliska. I tutaj już chyba widać ze Piotrek nabrał wprawy zarówno w robieniu zdjęć pod wodą jak i w obsłudze aparatu wsazonego w tenże plastikowy worek.
All photos were taken with Nikon D70 again, in that very same plastic “eva-marine” german engineering bag. Apart from a normal lens, we used a macro lens - the result you can see in a really good shots of closeups of some fish or corals. And here I think you can tell, Piotr was already more skilled in taking photos under water, as well as handling the camera stuck in the mentioned plastic bag.
Rafy na Malediwach są przepiękne i bardzo kolorowe szczególnie w płytszych partiach kiedy słońce je oświetla - idealna opcja dla nie nurkujących, więc wystarczy maska i snorkel i zobaczyć można naprawdę sporo. Jest mnóstwo kolorowych różnorodnych ryb, żłówie, rekiny, płaszczki, i tym podobne. Jest to napewno raj dla kazdego nurka wiec polecamy goraco.
Maldivian reefs are really picturesque and colourful, especially in the shallower parts when the sun shines straight onto it. It is a perfect place for non-divers - just grab a mask, a snorkel and you can see a lot - plenty of colourful fish, turtles, sharks (smaller ones), stingrays, and others. It is definitely a paradise for each diver so we highly recommend Maldives!
