Na te wakacje tak naprawdę planowaliśmy wybrać się do Tajlandii ale z kilku powodów wybraliśmy ponownie Malediwy, tyle że inną wyspę niż za pierwszym razem. Wybraliśmy wyspę Fihalhohi - podobna do Vilamendhoo, usytuowana trochę bliżej Male, równie niewielka, z rafą dookoła wyspy, do tego dobrze wyposażone centrum nurkowe, plaża, no i dobre recenzje. Cechą charakterystyczną wyspy był maszt radiowy więc nietrudno było wyspę rozpoznać z daleka.

This time we were planning to go to Thailand but for many reasons we somehow ended up choosing Maldives again, but a different island this time. We chose Fihalhohi island - similar to Vilamendhoo, a bit closer to Male, similar size and with the house reef and a well equipped dive centre, the beach and of course good reviews. The island’s feature was a tall radio mast so it was easy to recognise the island from the distance.

Zaklepaliśmy cały pakiet w First Choice, przelot, transport na wyspę i z powrotem, 3 posiłki dziennie. Wszystko inne ponadto było płatne dodatkowo (nie było opcji All Inclusive).

Cała podróż w obie strony minęła gładko i bez niespodzianek. Po wylądowaniu w Male wsiedliśmy na łódź motorową i około 45min później byliśmy już na wyspie.

Na wyspie do wyboru są domki standardowe, tańsze i droższe - parterowe, wolno stojące lub bliźniacze, i piętrowe z pokojami na dwóch poziomach a do tego dochodzi 12 domków na wodzie (water bungalows). Postanowiliśmy zaszaleć i zaklepaliśmy sobie jeden z takch domków na wodzie. Dostaliśmy chyba jeden z najlepszych bo na końcu rzędu, z widokiem na zachód słońca i najmniej widocznym z wyspy i plaży.

We booked our package holiday at First Choice and it included the flights, the transport to and from the island, 3 meals a day. Everything else was paid on top and it was not possible to have All Inclusive option.

The whole journey went smoothly and the speedboat journey from Male to the island took about 45 min.

On the island there are three types of accommodation available - standard rooms or superior rooms and bungalows, detached or two-storey huts with rooms on both levels. There area also 12 water bungalows available. We decided to go wild and we booked one of the water bungalows. We got probably one of the best ones as it was at the end of the row, facing west and least visible and least overlooked from the island and the beach.

Nasz domek/bungalow był sporych rozmiarów, z dużym częściowo zadaszonym tarasem, stolik i krzesła, leżaki, pokój z wielkim łożem, kanapami i fotelami do siedzenia w ciągu dnia, osobna garderoba, kącik z lodówką, czajnikiem i kawą/herbatą, radio i CD, biurko, plus łazienka z wanną i osobnym prysznicem. Do łazienki wchodziło się z garderoby jak i bezpośrednio z tarasu. Z tarasu mieliśmy bezpośredni dostęp do wody - pewnego rodzaju luksus - można od razu z domku wskoczyć do wody i wykąpać się czy posnorkelować, a po pływaniu myk od razu prosto do łazienki pod prysznic.

Our bungalow was pretty spacious, with a big terrace, table and chairs and sun loungers. There was a big bed, sofas and armchairs to relax during the day, separate dressing area, fridge and tea/coffee making facilities, CD radio, and a big bathroom with a separate shower. The bathroom was accessible from the dressing area as well as from the outside terrace. From the terrace we had a direct access to water - some sort of a luxury - you get up and can go for a swim or snorkelling directly from your terrace, and after you finish, you go up and straight to the bathroom for a quick shower.

Na wyspie obok centrum nurkowego dostępne były sporty wodne (katamarany, kajaki itp), skromny plac zabaw, restauracja i bar, sklep, drugi bar w drugim końcu wyspy, a w restauracji co wieczór inna rozrywka (od karaoke po disco). Bardzo podobnie jak na Vilamendhoo.

Apart from the dive centre on the island, there were also water sports available (catamarans, canoes, etc.), small playground, main restaurant, two bars, and in the main bar by the restaurant there was some sort of entertainment every evening (karaoke or disco nights, etc.). It was very similar to our stay in Vilamendhoo.

Restauracja była duża ze sporym bufetem więc każdy zawsze coś dla siebie znalazł, podczas śniadań, obiadów i kolacji. Jak zwykle do wyboru były świeże owoce i pyszne desery którymi zajadaliśmy się dwa razy dziennie.

Internet był dostępny tylko w recepcji ale był koszmarnie wolny i drogi, cena wogóle nie adekwatna do jakości połączenia. No ale to nie centrum miasta tylko środek oceanu więc do odebrania poczty wystarczał.

The restaurant was big and there was a great choice of food at every meal - Western and local type of dishes were available. There was always a choice of fresh fruit and delicious desserts that we didn’t dare to skip ;)

Internet connection was available (wifi) but only in the reception and bar area. It was very slow and very expensive and the price was not adequate to the quality of connection. Well, we weren’t in the middle of the town but in the middle of the ocean so better this than nothing and it was ok to check your emails.

Wyspa była bardzo ładna, zadbana i gęsto zarośnięta więc było sporo cienia. Plaża na wyspie była prześwietna i sporych rozmiarów z bardzo delikatnym piaskiem. Leżaki dostępne dla wszystkich, i każdy mógł znaleźć sobie cichy kącik nie przeszkadzając innym. Można było pograć też w siatkówkę ale komu by się chciało w tym prażącym słońcu.

The island was really nice and well maintained with lots of plants and trees around so there was a lot of shade. The beach was really big and beautiful with a very fine sand. There were beach loungers available for everyone and you were able to find a spot without walking on other people’s heads. You could also play beach volleyball but I don’t think anyone would want to in this hot weather.

Po kilku dniach pobytu na wyspie, całkiem przypadkowo, natknęliśmy się na Filipa i Magdę, Polaków również mieszkających w Anglii. Spędziliśmy kilka miłych wieczorów przy piwku czy koktajlach a w nasz ostatni wieczór dzielnie braliśmy wszyscy udział w Wyścigu Krabów. Tutaj wyścig wyglądał trochę inaczej niż na Vilamendhoo, trochę bardziej zkomplikowane i zakręcone (niepotrzebnie) zasady. Ale było równie wesoło jak te pare lat temu za pierwszym razem :)

After a few days of our stay, by accident we bumped into Filip and Magda - a Polish couple, also living in the UK. We spent a few evenings having drinks and chatting about everything and our last evening we all took part in the Crab Race. It was a bit different from what we experienced in Vilamendhoo, a bit more (unnecessarily) complicated rules. But it was as funny as the first time few years ago :)

Wycieczki oferowane przez wyspę były podobne do tych, które mieliśmy na Vilamendhoo i organizuje chyba każdy lokalny resort. My skupialiśmy się jak zwykle na nurkowaniu więc wycieczki nam nie w głowie. Piotrek postanowił jednak tym razem wybrać się na łowienie ryb. Organizowane są poranne wypady, popołudniowe z zachodem słońca i nocne. Piotrek wybrał się na popołudniowe, wraz z Filipem, Magdą i dwoma innymi goścmi z naszego resortu. Wypłynęli poludniem jedną łodzią z kilkoma lokalnymi rybakami, a łowienie ryb odbywało się za pomocą zwykłej żyłki z przynętą. Jak złapało się coś większego to ciężko było trzymać żyłkę bo wżynała się w ręce ale rybacy mieli wprawę więc pomagali. Dwa razy udało im się złapać rekina (to chyba sprawka Magdy była), i chyba za każdym razem tego samego. Po złapaniu trzeba było go wypuścić z powrotem do wody ale szarpiąc się zaplątywał się w żyłkę więc nie było łatwo.

The trips offered by the resort were very similar to those we had in Vilamendhoo and probably all the Maldivian resorts offer the same packages. Our stay was again focussed on diving so we didn’t think of going on any trips, but one. Piotr decided to go fishing this time. They do sunrise, sunset and night fishing trips. Piotr decided to go for the sunset fishing, together with Filip and Magda and two more guests from our resort. They went on one boat with a few local fishermen and the fishing ‘rod’ was just fishing line with a bait and you had to hold the line with your bare hands. If they caught something bigger, it wasn’t easy to keep the line but the fishermen helped. Twice they managed to catch a shark (it was Magda’s catch) and both times I think it was the same shark. It kept wriggling and entangled in the line but they had to let it out which wasn’t easy.

Z połowu wrócili już po zachodzie słońca z kilkoma skrzynkami dosyć sporych ryb, które po kolacji dopiero około 22:00 są smażone na grillu i można przyjść i się najeść. Piotrkowi specjalnie na próbowaniu ich nie zależało i już byliśmy po kolacji więc spasowaliśmy.

They came back after sunset with a few boxes of pretty good catches. After dinner at around 10pm by the restaurant they served the fish grilled so you can have a second dinner. Piotr didn’t really feel like doing any fish tasting and we already had dinner so we skipped this one.

Z wczasów wróciliśmy jak zwykle 'wynurkowani', ja opalona (Piotrek jak zwykle blady), objedzeni deserami, i oczywiście wypoczęci. Marterac na naszym łóżku był jednym z wygodniejszych na jakich spałam. Miła obsługa, dobre jedzenie, dobre towarzystwo no i przede wszystkim rewelacyjne nurkowanie o czym w szczegółach w kolejnym wpisie.

We came back from Fiha pretty ‘well-dived’ again. I came back with a suntan, Piotr came back pale again, we were stuffed with desserts , had a lot of rest and slept really well. The mattress on our bed was one of the most comfortable I ever slept on. The service was nice and all staff was very friendly and helpful. We spent a really nice time in good company and diving was even better than the first time. There will be a separate entry on diving and snorkelling.
